Designing the African Trans Network’s identity meant finding the sweet spot between global visibility and local voice. The trans flag’s baby pink and blue are instantly recognizable, but they can be tricky — too soft, too “pastel,” too easy to drown out next to the bold palettes often tied to African design.
The challenge was turning those delicate shades into something powerful. We paired the pink and blue with deeper supporting tones — deep navy, warm yellows, and strong neutrals — creating a palette that feels rooted in Africa while still proudly trans. Patterns inspired by textiles and maps layer in texture, grounding the identity in a sense of place and movement.
The result? A design that’s unapologetically trans, unmistakably African, and built to carry a network that crosses borders and brings people together
